Rewriting a vague email

Before

Hey, can you look at the report when you get a chance? Some numbers seem off. Thanks.

Subject: Q3 sales report: please check 2 figures by Thursday

Hi Sam,

I'm reviewing the Q3 sales report before Friday's meeting, and two figures don't match our tracker:

1. Ontario sales (page 2): $48,200 in the report, $46,900 in the tracker
2. Total returns (page 4): 118 in the report, 131 in the tracker

Could you confirm which numbers are correct by Thursday at noon? I'm happy to go through them on a 10-minute call if that's easier.

Thanks,
Jordan

The second email states its purpose, lists exactly what's wrong, makes a specific request with a deadline and offers help.

Feedback using SBI

Positive feedback

"In this morning's client call, you summarized the action items and owners at the end. The client said it was the clearest meeting they'd had with us, and it saved me writing a follow-up email."

Constructive feedback

"In yesterday's team meeting, you interrupted Priya twice while she was presenting. She didn't get to finish her update, and we ran out of time to agree on the schedule. Can we talk about how to make sure everyone gets a turn?"
